INTERVIEW – Romania’s Amsimcel seeks 6 mln euro in seed funding

SeeNews – April 30, 2005Romanian deep tech start-up Amsimcel (HyperPV), which develops software to accelerate semiconductor chip design and verification, aims to raise 6.0 million euro ($6.8 million) in a seed funding round as it looks to expand into the US and, in the longer term, into the Far East, its CEO and co-founder said.

Amsimcel (HyperPV) develops cutting-edge technology for chip design, developing HyperPV, which accelerates the verification of integrated circuits—key components of semiconductor chips—by using graphics processors to reduce time-to-market and production costs. The startup targets the fast-growing $30 billion global market gap for physical verification of integrated circuits—a critical step in chip manufacturing.

The Bucharest-based company, which is currently focused on the European market, was launched in 2017, partners with Nvidia through the Nvidia Inception program, and is a member of the Silicon Integration Initiative, a consortium that sets standards for chip design and verification.

HyperPV is running on graphical processing units (GPUs) made by Nvidia.

Amsimcel (HyperPV) has already secured $3.0 million in grants and equity from public and private institutions, including EIC Accelerator, and VC funds Plug & Play, Gapminder, and TechAngels.

We are looking to attract both US and European investors. Specifically for this round, our goal is to certify our HyperPV product platform for advanced semiconductor nodes and deploy it in the U.S. and Asian markets,” said Catalin Tugui, CEO of Amsimcel (HyperPV)

Tugui envisions the company growing in two main directions. Horizontally, it aims to expand its product lines to cover the entire chip manufacturing process, focusing on critical turnkey solutions for the semiconductor foundries. Vertically, he expects AI-based agents to streamline and empower the entire design chain. In this approach, HyperPV will act as a gatekeeper for all fabrication steps, using AI to guide the design process while adhering to foundry constraints for manufacturing. “For this, we will definitely need additional funding,” he concluded.
